Can an orchid miss its bloom season?

i have a cym. maurrine carter, when is the time for them to bloom..am using a bloom buster right know in December, but i have not seen any signs of flower spike...does any body know what time of year they bloom in california.

Can an orchid miss its bloom season?
The season depends upon the variety of cymbidium. In addition to the usual cool season bloomers, there are now also heat tolerant varieties.

In my climate, I've never had luck with cymbidiums. If I leave them outside until it's cold enough for them to initialte spikes, they end up freezing. The heat tolerant varieties just produce foliage for me.

But yes, It's possible to miss just one season and resume blooming. Also check on fertilizing it.

Good luck!
Reply:Orchids generally come up in mid to late spring. It's too early.
Reply:It's still a little early here in So. Cal. for blooming time but then again orchids are much like cats in that they do what they want when they want so "typical" really does not apply. And yes orchids will not bloom if condtons are not right. To hot, to cold, not enough filtered lght, to much direct light all will affect the bloom cycle. I have some that bloom twice a year, some that bloom in the fall and some that just plain skipped a year only to be spectacular the following year.
