I broke the blossoms off of my orchid, How can I get it to bloom again?

It is planted in coconut husk and is a phalenopsis orchid. What type of food should I use on it?

It probably won't bloom until this time next year so don't try to force it or speed things along. To each a season... RScott
Reply:Flowering: The determining factor that makes Phalaenopsis flower is temperature. It has to have a 15-20 degree night/day difference. That means it will flower when night temperatures are 65 -70F and day temps are 80 - 85F. It take 4 - 8 weeks, depending on variety, of this daily temperature variation to induce it to flower. Once induced, raise the temperature 5 degrees, this would maximize flower development. But it would still take 3-4 months until the first open bloom.

Watering: The Fertilizer formulation we used is proportionately similar to African violet food. Unfortunately, any dissolved salts, high calcium, chlorine, and fluoride in tap water will slowly kill your orchid. Use distilled water or reverse osmosis water, add 1/4 the recommended dose per gallon. Use a spray bottle to foliar feed your orchid daily during the spring through fall and once a week during the winter months. Try not to water at night or on cloudy days which leads to disease problems.

I've worked extensively on Phalaenopsis from Taiwan.
