I got orchids from my husband yesterday for Valentine's Day delivered to my work. I put water and the food in the vase and they look beautiful. Well when I came into work today, they looked alittle welted. Whats wrong?
How do I care for my orchid?
Many ornamental orchids are epiphytic meaning they grow someplace other than in the ground i.e. in trees. Their roots are exposed to the air and they have no soil from which to absorb nutrients. Put yourself in the plants place
you would need to absorb water from the humid air surrounding you and directly from rainfall. You would depend on dust accumulating on your leaves and rainfall for nutrients. So perhaps high humidity, frequent watering in WELL DRAINED soil, and minimal fertilization would be beneficial. Oh yes indirect sunlight depending on species.
