How to take care of an Orchid after the blossoms have fallen off?

I have an orchid plant, the flowers have all fallen off and it has started growing another stem. I need to know the best way to take care of it to ensure the stem grows and buds form. Also how long does it take for the next bloom? I know not to water it often or with a lot of water, but anything else I should know?
