I'm not sure if it's a compliment or an insult.
Is it appropriate to give an orchid to a pre-op transsexual friend?
getting flowers are always good, i love orchids
Reply:It's appropriate to give an orchid to just about anybody you care about. That is a wonderful, thoughtful gift.
Reply:I guess I'm a little obtuse, since I don't understand the question- i.e., how could it be an insult?
If you're friend is like me, she would surely appreciate it.
Reply:Does she like orchids?
It depends on your relationship with her, and why you're giving it to her. If you intend it as an insult, it is; if you don't, it isn't.
Most transwomen have a robust sense of humour; the irony would not be lost on her.
(For those who don't understand what the issue is; 'orchis' , as well as being a genus of flower, is the Greek word for 'testicle', and one of the procedures carried out in Sex Affirmation Surgery for transwomen is 'bilateral orchidectomy' - removal of both testicles)
Reply:orchids are pretty

I'd say it's fine. Flowers are nice.
Reply:Yes it is appropriate
