it is a dendromiun and i really want success with it
Is my orchid dropping its flowers because it is too cold in my house?
It depends on what type of orchid you have. Most flowers will last for several days to several weeks. A Phaleanopsis orchid can stay in flower for years sending new flower spikes continously if given the right conditions.
Most orchids need VERY BRIGHT LIGHT and watering about once every 7 to 10 days.
When a new orchid is perchased, do not fertilize until all the flowers have passed. Cold drafts and very warm temperatures will cause the flowers to go by faster,
Reply:Orchids are mostly grown and should be kept in a temperature of 25 deg warmth(not sure what scale that is if you are in America)For Australia 25 is warm and 40 deg is extremely hot to give you an idea. so when its cold they won't produce any more flowers or the current ones will drop off. they go well in sun rooms with a lot of day round protected warmth, they are a hot house flower, do not have them near draughts, near open door ways or where it is shaded for long periods.
Reply:I dont know much about Orchids, but I do know two very important things about orchids. One is that they shouldn't be over-watered. Once every 10 days or so is a good time span to water your Orchid. The test is usually to just touch the dirt and see if it is moist. If it is, then dont water it. The second is that Orchids dont require a lot of light and they require steady room temperature. I purchased my orchid approximately 5 weeks ago. All the flowers have bloomed and they have stayed on. I think the reason for this is that I have not moved the Orchid from its location and I have watered it about every ten days. My orchid is in front of my window but I have thick curtains that are always closed and so that has caused it to remain intact. The fact that your house is too cold might be a factor but check its water and light as well. Good luck!
