If my ball python digested orchid bark will he be ok?
he sould be fine as long as its not sand and stones it will probably be digested with the rest of the food
Reply:A small piece of substrate should be easily passed, but as suggested, it's safer to feed in a seperate enclosure. While snakes that are handled regularly as well as cleaned and watered won't associate (not socialize as someone suggested) opening the lid with feeding, it's still better not to feed with substrate. There's nothing wrong with housing on orchid bark by the way. It's a safe reptile bedding. Might make it hard to see some of the smaller defications though. If you're going to feed in the cage, change over to cage carpet, paper towel or newspaper. Then make sure you handle the snake often, and go in and out of the cage enough that it knows that you aren't going to feed every time you open the lid. My snakes actually associate the feed box with feeding so it's no different.
Reply:As long as the piece he ingested was small, he should be ok. If its a big piece, it can become lodged. I would recommend not using bark as a substrate, but Astro-turf, which is easy to clean and helps with shedding, or *******'s Repti-bed. Your other option is to feed him in another location other than his tank to keep him from further ingesting bark pieces when feeding.
