It still has its flowers on the stem and a few small buds on the top. I heard someone say on the radio that you should cut them down now, even if there are still flowers on it. Is this true or not. Any information on care/maintenance would be welcome as I really want this lovely plant to survive.
I have an orchid in my bathroom and wonder how best to look after it.?
all depends :)
I assume your orchid is a Phalaenopsis? The "moth" orchid?
if it still makes buds at the tip of the spike I would not cut it. Once the last flower has faded you can cut it 2 inches below where the first flower emerged and then hope for a secondary spike. I would only recommend that if the plant is strong (good roots) in order to have a happy orchid you need good light and high humidity and watering it when it needs it (not when it is convenient for you)
Good luck
