How often does a orchid Bloom?

As a rule almost all orchids should bloom upon reaching maturity. The number of years depend on the genus (i.e. is it cattleya, phalaenopsis, cymbidium, dendrobium, vanda, etc.) So it is important when buying or acquiring orchids to know what type they are and how "old" they are.

Assuming the cultivation is correct (watering, sunlight, nutrient, humidity), blooming still vary from genus to genus, species to species, etc. Species are naturally occurring orchids while hybrids are man made. Hence they (hybrids)tend to bloom more often and are much easier to care for. Most (but not all) species tend to be seasonal bloomers some even blooming only once a year (so you have to note when that time is). There are some species however that are free flowering.

Dendrobiums, phalaenopsis, qt vandas, arandas, mokaras, oncidiums can be made to bloom continuously yearlong. Of course that would also depend on where you live. Sunloving orchids bloom profusely all year in the tropics but not so in the temperate regions. Although Phalaenopsis flower spikes can be made to last almost the entire year, it only seems to be a prolific flowering orchid because its flowers last a long time and its flower spike is quite long. Hybrid arandas, qt vandas and dendrobiums can flower up to 8-10 times a year with each flowering producing 2 or more spikes per plant.

Still others can be made to bloom given the right stimulus(i) like sudden drops in temperature (esp. nightime temp) over several weeks, longer night time periods, right amount of sunlight, withholding water, etc. My neighbors cattleya simply refused to bloom because it was located in an area that it is directly exposed to the street light at night. When she placed at the back it miraculously bloom,ed 3 months later.

Some orchids bloom only when they have reached a certain height

Some growers resort to "force feeding" their plant. Supplying them with an abundance of plant food to maximize flowering. This however may result in over feeding and the orchid's eventual demise.

How often does a orchid Bloom?
The answer to this question depends upon the type of orchid. Some bloom once a year, others bloom several times a year and some even bloom continuously.
Reply:Every orchid is different, however most will bloom at least once per year. Some varieties such as dendrobiums, can bloom as often as every 8 months, while cattleyas (corsage type) can bloom as much as 3 times per year.
Reply:every year, and if yu take great care, the blooms will last for three months
Reply:Once in it's lifetime
