How much sunlight? Water? Should I use fertilizer? And anything else I should know.
Got an orchid as a present. How should I take care of it?
They normally live in VERY humid warm environments by clinging to the sides of trees - hanging on their bark and using their aerial roots to draw moisture from the air and the bark. So although some people can raise them easily in humid warm areas, you need a brightly sunlit bathroom to keep them in other areas - they will not do well in cold winters with a lot of dry conditioned air on them. Lacking a greenhouse, your ability to get them to survive, much less rebloom is limited.
That being said - go ahead and contact your local orchid society and they will load you up with ideas and advice.
Reply:Hope you live in hot ,humid climate. Depends on the orchid , how much lite. Never over water. Fertilize lightly, about once a month.
My best advice to you is throw away the orchid. There more addictive than cocoaine. I started with one , ended up with a couple thousand.Good luck
Reply:hey i have a couple wild orchids and i spray them with water once or twice a day . depending on the type of soil and climate water once a day or twice . the soil should neither be drenched or bone dry but moist they also need as much sun as you can give them
Reply:It depends on what type of orchid you have. The American Orchid Society has a lot of information.
