I have had a phalaenopsis orchad in bloom for about 2-3 months. The blooms have started to fall off. When should I expect new buds? Should I fertilize while waiting? Thanks.
When will my orchid bloom again?
Phaleanopsis orchids will often re-bloom from the same flower spike. After the initial blooming you should cut the spike about halfway back, just above one of the nodes. You should see new blooms within 8-12 weeks.
Cut the spike off entirely by mid-summer to allow your plant to regain it's strength for next year’s blooms.
Seal the cut with melted candle wax or a dusting of cinnamon powder (a natural fungicide) to prevent bacterial infection.
Reply:most will flower again in the fall, It all depends on what kind/species of orchids you have. Check out this web sight for more info..
Reply:You need to research this particular species. You may have to wait a few months before you can start preparation for new blossoms. Some orchids are very temperant.
I normally mist mine everyday and add fertilizers in March. It usually blooms in the end of May.
Reply:I think early spring.
