Hi - I bought an orchid and it was doing well - now stem is yellow and petals fell off - can I save it?

The flowers and the stem will die once it's done blooming - it's the rest of the plant you need to keep alive. If it's dying off while it's still flowering then my guess is you're overwatering it. Orchids really only need to be watered once a week and do NOT let it sit in water afterwards. Just dunk the pot in water, let it sit for a couple of minutes and then pull it out and let it drain - that's it.

I don't have much experience whs orchids but i do know that you need to let them dry out quite a bit before you water them. They are easy to over water.
Reply:same thing happened to me. I just had to throw mine away because it never came back.
Reply:Orchids are picky. They like plenty of sun and more of a dry environment. You may have overwatered it. That is why the yellow leaves. Not sure if it can be brought back. Cut it back and wait and see.
Reply:Orchids are one of those plants that are beautiful for a short while, but the rest of the time are nothing more that a stem/stub. Over watering is the most common death trap. You also need to give it appropriate vitamins and plant foods. They are very finicky plants. Might want to ask your local nursery.
